Meet the founder

I’m Alasdair — a solo developer building SlateGrid for real clubs

After two years as IT Officer for the Adelaide University Engineering Society, I learnt first-hand how clunky, incomplete tools can derail even the most dedicated volunteer teams. SlateGrid is my answer to that pain.

Why SlateGrid exists

I’ve sat in too many club rooms wrestling with scattered spreadsheets, half-finished apps, and dated web portals that never quite respected how student organisations actually operate. When you’re juggling events, sponsorship, and membership renewals, tools should lift the load — not add more admin.

During my time on the Adelaide University Engineering Society committee I ended up prototyping bespoke systems just to keep the wheels turning. That experience made it clear: clubs deserve software created by someone who has lived the chaos of orientation week sign-ups and renewal season.

Boots-on-the-ground insight

From orientation week sign-up desks to late-night sponsorship reporting, I’ve lived the turmoil of patchy software and know what needs fixing.

Built for every club box

When other platforms missed critical needs — cash memberships, real renewal cycles, respectful data ownership — I designed tools that filled the gaps.

A commitment to clarity

SlateGrid is opinionated about helping exec teams communicate, collect dues, and stay organised with less friction and more transparency.

Let’s build better club tech together

SlateGrid is evolving quickly with the same care I put into the custom tools that started it all. If you’re facing a challenge, I’ve probably wrestled with it too — and I’m ready to help solve it properly.
